Impulse Region

The Impulse Region – consisting of the towns of Weimar, Erfurt and Jena and the County Weimar Land – was formed in preparation of Weimar becoming the European Cultural Capital, in 1999.

Since then, the  region works together in the areas of culture and tourism, business, science and technology.

Modern heads

Thuringia has many clever heads! Especially the Impulse Region attracts and gathers many planners, thinkers and contemplaters. On the following pages, 4 times 4 creative thinkers and artists are going to open the doors to their think tanks for you and thus allow you to gain a better understanding of this progressive and tolerant region that also receives impulses from the past. It was exactly 100 years ago that Bauhaus was founded in Weimar. It started to radiate well beyond the limits of the town. Soon, its teachers and students brought their revolutionary ideas to every corner of the world. Traces of these – still exciting – pioneering ideas can be experienced in the Impulse Region.

And that’s why the symbols of the innovative college of art and design determine the topics of the KulturImpulse 2019. The line joins circle, square and triangle. The line as a means of connecting two or more points (of travel) symbolises co-operation, but also vision and networking that can bring people together, across borders.
We invite you to travel with us to the University towns of Erfurt, Weimar and Jena as well as through their green belt of the Weimar Land, full of culture and science. There is so much to discover!

Wishing you a year full of (travel) ideas and inspiring meetings!
